About the Author

William Butler Yeats is generally considered to be Ireland’s greatest poet, living or dead, and one of the most important literary figures of the twentieth century. The effort to publish the complete work of Yeats has been ongoing for the last thirty years. The only remaining volume is "Mythologies." This is part of a fourteen volume uniform edition of Yeats' work edited by the top scholars in the field. Expensive yes, but for the devoted following, the series is indispensable. Thirteen volumes done, one to go.

This is put together like a system for something that will soon fall apart. On page 46 some poetry about phases of the moon includes a verse that has a line which ends with chatter followed by a line ending with betwixt:Hunchback and Saint and Fool are the last crescents.The burning bow that once could shoot an arrowOut of the up and down, the wagon-wheelOf beauty's cruelty and wisdom's chatter--Out of that raving tide--is drawn betwixtDeformity of body and of mind.
