My favorite SQL book! With great little examples.
Received in great condition
The best book I've come across for self-taught SQL.
Good for intermediate. I feel this book is good for someone who might be good with coding and/or Access, but just doesn't know SQL very well. Like any book on coding or querying, it's not extensive, but that's because they show you the methods and most of the work is doing sample querying or just getting to work. You've probably done enough SQL or research to figure out if you'll be comfortable with it already.I wish it had gone into more advanced topics, but that's not really a complaint since the author went after a certain target audience. The formatting could have also used some indentation to better show off the query logic.
I read the first edition some time ago and it was quite good. I would recommend looking at reviews for that edition to get a true picture of this book's worth, as at this time there are only three reviews for this edition, one being a one star review clearly written by an idiot or somebody with an ax to grind.
I was browsing at BN and this book caught my eye. Chapter 9 Summarizing Data has the clearest explanation of ranking functions and partitions that I've ever seen. Chapter 10 Subtotals and Crosstabs looks good as well. This was enough for me to want to add it to my library.
Easy to read and follow. Uses real life scenarios. Highly recommended.
