About the Author
Arthur Agatston, M.D., is a preventive cardiologist and associate professor of medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. In 1995, Dr. Agatston developed the South Beach Diet to help his cardiac and diabetes patients improve their blood chemistries and lose weight. Since then, his book The South Beach Diet and its companion titles have sold more than 22 million copies. Dr. Agatston has published more than 100 scientific articles and abstracts in medical journals, and recently he received the prestigious Alpha Omega Award from New York University Medical Center for outstanding achievement in the medical profession. He lives in Miami Beach with his wife, Sari.Joseph Signorile, Ph.D., is a professor of exercise physiology and assistant director of the Laboratory of Clinical and Applied Physiology at the University of Miami. He is widely published and lectures frequently on the subjects of exercise training, muscle physiology, and metabolism.

I had and used the original South Beach Diet book years ago with wonderful results. I prefer South Beach over any other low carb diet because it incorporates low glycemic choices that give me enough fruit and carbs to stay on this program. I also have found that low glycemic gives me significant results in a short time so I feel motivated to continue on this plan. I bought this book to refresh my memory of the program and to see what had been added since I used it before.
I did this diet religiously for a week and lost 7 pounds in ONE WEEK! AND that was with a few CHEATS! I was on PHASE 1 and it was livable, but a little too strict for my taste, but cutting off the bread, sugar, potatoes, and rice DID help me realize the importance of limiting them in my regular diet. Now I'm mixing aspects of THIS diet with the 'Intermittent Fasting', and have been consistently losing weight!
I lost 12 pounds in about a month. This diet doesn’t leave you hungry but plan ahead with plenty of snacks. Make two vegetables with dinner. When following the recipes you will need to add salt and pepper and more herbs and spices. Pretty healthy diet.
Disappointed, not worth buying. The original south beach diet books ares so much better. A few new ideas on food but mainly gives exercise to incorporate in weight loss.
This book gave me the push I needed to get started on the "campaign" to better health which for me includes weight loss! I like that there are no measurements but easy to follow lists of foods to eat and those to avoid or eat rarely.
Probably the most effective diet I ever tried. We get the old revision in a Garage Sale, but decided to have the new revision base in new data and research for food nutritional facts. Even better than before. In the first two weeks, following the diet, I loose 10 pounds, no kidding. Effective, yes.
Great diet and easy to stay on. I started since a friend was on it and I was traveling with her. Six weeks and 18 pounds later I still have no problem with my choices.
I found the first two weeks easy to follow and was satisfied with those results. I like that the focus is to link you to a health lifestyle of eating rather than just weight reduction. I would recommend it to others.
